As you prepare to board your craft, you’ll receive a briefing from Buzz Lightyear himself. Your mission-to blast away at special targets placed throughout the galaxy (all marked with “Z”‘s). The more you shoot, the more points you’ll earn.

Once you begin your journey, you’ll find that you have two tools to assist you. The first is your laser cannon. Your laser cannons fire a beam of red light-hit the targets with the beam to score points. To get at those targets, you’ll also find a joystick that you can use to spin your ship around, the better to maneuver yourself into prime firing position.

After a final showdown with emporer Zurg, Buzz Lightyear will offer his congratulations. Check your score to see how you did, you’ll find a chart at the end of your adventure that tells you your ranking.

Magical Moments

  • The first thing you’ll see when you enter the attraction building is Buzz Lightyear himself giving last minute instructions to the recruits.
  • Keep an eye out for the larger than life toys scattered throughout the queue area. Among them you’ll find a giant 8-ball and a Magna Doodle with some important information to help you on your mission.
  • Each room is filled with incredible detail, be sure to look everywhere to see everything (and to find those elusive high scoring targets!).
  • A favorite room for most guests is the star tunnel room where you’ll battle a fierce armada of space fighters on your way to your final confrontation with Emperor Zurg.
  • Don’t forget to check your score at the end! It’s quite a thrill to better your score and reach that next level. If you hit the high score (999,999) be sure to take a picture of your readout so everyone will believe you!

  • When you enter the waiting area you’ll see a map showing the Planets of the Galactic Alliance on the wall. One of the planets is called Pollost Prime and features an oddly shaped continent…

  • The Buzz Lightyear figure utilizes the latest Animatronic technology and a unique video rear projection system for Buzz’s face, resulting in one of the most lifelike Animatronic figures in all of Walt Disney World.

Touring Tips

  • To get a high score, aim for the targets that are far away or in unusual places. Here a few to start with, if you can hit each of these multiple times you have a good chance of getting 999,999!In the first room, look for a target that’s hanging over head, in the structure that resembles a street lamp. Each hit is worth 100,000 points! You’ll actually have an easier time hitting it once you pass beneath it, spin your ship around to get a good shot!
    In the next room, look for the volcano on the far wall. Hit it as often as you can.
    Finally, in the room with all the batteries, aim for the one on the right wall all the way in the back.
  • Having a hard time aiming? The key is being able to pick out your laser from all of the rest (this can be hard to do when aiming for a far away target). When your laser powers up in the first room, shoot at the nearby wall repeatedly and keep your eye on where it hits. As you pass in to the next room, continue to track your laser. As long as you can see the spot where it hits, you’ll know it’s yours and you’ll have an easier time aiming. If you ever lose track of the laser beam, just aim at a nearby target until you find it again.
  • Smile when you enter the last room (the one past the star tunnel), you’re about to get your picture taken! You can purchase a copy of your photo at the end of the mission.
  • Even though two people can fit in one car, it’s usually a better idea to ride separately if you’re serious about trying to get a good score (if two if you ride together you might not always agree on how to spin the ship!).
