As you approach Rockettower Plaza, you’ll see the colorful, kinetic sculptures surrounding the Astro Orbiter towering high above you. A short elevator ride takes you to the boarding area where you’ll prepare for blast off.

Once you’re airborne, you can raise and lower your ship with the joystick for more thrills! The Astro Orbiter offers fantastic views of Tomorrowland (and the entire Magic Kingdom), though you may be too exhilarated to notice!

Magical Moments

  • The view of Tomorrowland is incredible from high atop the Astro Orbiter.
  • Try to visit at night when Tomorrowland is all lit up. You’ll really feel like your blasting off from an alien spaceport.
  • The kinetic sculpture that surrounds the Astro Orbiter evokes the early science fiction stories of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon.

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

  • In Rockettower Plaza, look on the ground near the support beam situated near the Astro Orbiter (on the Space Mountain side) to find a Hidden Mickey embedded into the ground.

Did You Know...?

  • Although they travel at the same speed, your Astro Orbiter spaceship appears to spin much faster than the StarJets it replaced. This is due to the careful placement and design of the surrounding planets which give you the illusion of faster speed.
  • There are a total of 12 spaceships on the Astro Orbiter, which race around the central pylon at 11 revolutions per minute.

Touring Tips

  • This is extremely slow-loading attraction, and lines can be quite long. To avoid a long wait, try to visit early in the morning or during a parade or show.
  • If you’re susceptible to motion sickness, you might want to be wary of this attraction. Your rocket circles Tomorrowland at a pretty good clip, and can be a bit unnerving for those with sensitive stomachs.
  • You should also be aware that you are pretty high off the ground (you need to take an elevator to the boarding area-which also contributes to the slow-moving lines). If you have a fear of heights you’ll also want to be cautious.
  • You can get some great views of Tomorrowland from atop the Astro Orbiter-especially at night!
