Please note the Walt Disney Railroad is currently closed due to the ongoing construction of the new Tron attraction in Tomorrowland.

The Walt Disney World Railroad makes stops in Frontierland and Fantasyland (as well as Main Street of course), and offers a relaxing way to see the park.

Main Street Station is the most elaborately themed of all of the stations. Be sure to explore it thoroughly to find all sorts of nostalgic treasures.

The Walt Disney World Railroad is a great way to get from one part of the park to another (you can board and disembark at any station), but don’t forget that it’s a great attraction in its own right!

Magical Moments

  • TextTake the time to explore the Main Street Station. There are lots of nostalgic knick knacks and old fashioned arcade games to find.
  • Main Street Station is a great place to watch the nighttime fireworks displays. You’ll need to arrive early to reserve your space though, it’s very popular!

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

  • Take a look at the roof of the Main Street Station to find a repeating Hidden Mickey in the scrollwork around the edges.
  • There is a shelf on the wall in the Main Street Station where some famous passengers have stored their luggage. See if you can figure out who they belong to!

Did You Know...?

  • There are four different locomotives, each with their own name, emblazoned on different colored name boards on the sides of the cabs:
    Walter E. Disney (red)
    Lilly Belle (green)
    Roger E. Broggie (yellow)
    Roy O. Disney (blue)
  • The Lilly Belle is names after Walt’s wife Lillian, while the Roger E. Broggie is named in honor of the Disney machinery wizard who helped Walt start his model railroading hobby.
  • The locomotives were built over the course of the years 1916 to 1928 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Another famous Baldwin locomotive is on permanent display at the Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia (you can ride on it but the journey isn’t nearly as scenic, seeing as it only travels a few feet back and forth in the display hall!).
  • The original locomotives were in great disrepair when they were salvaged from the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The were transported to the Tampa Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company where they were painstakingly restored.

Touring Tips

  • Don’t think of the Walt Disney Railroad as just a way to get from one end of the park to the other. It’s a great attraction unto itself and gives you a nice, relaxing tour of the park.
  • The Walt Disney Railroad makes stops at Main Street U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland.
  • The Fantasyland station is also adjacent to a quiet pathway that leads to Tomorrowland.
  • Lines are usually longest at the Frontierland station.
  • If you board the railroad right when the park opens, you should be able to get to Frontierland (and Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain) before the crowds arrive on foot (if you miss the first train however and that is your intent, you’re better off going on foot).
  • If you have a rental stroller, be aware that you won’t be able to take it with you on the train. You can, however, pick up a replacement stroller when you disembark (just be sure to take your rental receipt and name card with you).
