From the moment you cross the bridge into Pandora, you feel as if you have entered another world — alien, yet welcoming. Mountains float overhead, and flora unlike any on Earth abounds as far as the eye can see. Here lies the Valley of Mo’ara, a fertile Pandoran refuge where exotic creatures roam, foliage glows in the darkness of night, and everyone comes together in the spirit of conservation and harmony!

The bioluminescent landscapes of Pandora are a wonder to behold after the sun goes down! Everything changes at night, with the very ground beneath your feet glowing eerily as you wander though a myriad of brilliantly lit plants.
The world of Avatar speaks to the importance of working in harmony — humans and Na’vi — to build a better future together and preserve Mother Nature’s many gifts.

Did You Know...?

The visual focal point of Pandora is the Valley of Mo’ara and its jaw-dropping floating mountain ranges. The 156-foot tall mountains employ forced perspective to appear larger than they physically are.
The mountains are indeed impressive and are a true engineering masterpiece. The immense steel foundations for the floating mountains alone required a year to complete, and held aloft by steel beams concealed by rockwork and vinery.
For the look of the mountains, Imagineers went to Zhang jiajie National Forest Park to study the jagged pillar peaks of the Wulingyuan region for inspiration, and also studied the foliage in Hawaii.
A mythical land of creatures was always part of the original plans for the Animal Kingdom, first known as Beastly Kingdom. (You can see an image of a dragon in the Animal Kingdom logo representing this planned-for but never-built land). Conceptual plans for the land began with Guests confronting a most consequential fork in the road. One way would have led to Dragon Tower, a headliner roller coaster that would heavily inspire the eventual design for Expedition Everest. The opposite choice sent Guests to The Quest for the Unicorn, an attraction housed within an elaborate hedge maze. Participants would have had to band together to find five golden idols scattered throughout the flowered labyrinth, ultimately revealing the unicorn’s hiding spot. Beastly Kingdom never came to pass of course, and instead the torch was passed to Pandora and its uplifting message of man’s harmony with nature.

Touring Tips

As you enter Pandora, stop in at the Colors of Mo’ara to embrace their inner Na’vi with a little face-paint. Many distinct styles and patterns are on offer, but all have that characteristic AVATAR blue that will help you fit right in among the natives.
Each Cast Member has internalized a specific backstory for his or her character. Strike up some conversations and see for yourself how diverse these origin stories can be. Some describe themselves as employees of Alpha Centauri Expeditions, others are studious researchers, while more than a few simply fell in love with Pandora’s beauty and decided to make this their new home.
Unlike many other lands in Walt Disney World, the entrances to the two attractions (Flight of Passage and the Na’Vi River Journey) blend seamlessly into the landscape. Unsure of your bearing? Don’t worry, there are plenty of maps to guide you along your way!
Visit the Satu’li Canteen, a counter-service eatery, for some unusual – but delicious! – dishes. Our favorite? Without a doubt it’s the steamed cheeseburger “pod!”
