Before you lift off into space, you’ll need to pick your team. If you join the Orange Team you’ll blast off to Mars in an incredibly realistic space flight simulation! Sound a little too intense? Don’t worry, you can join the Green Team and enjoy a relaxing orbit around planet Earth!

For both teams, your mission starts as you board your space capsule with three fellow astronauts. Before you board you’ll be assigned a flight team position (commander, pilot, navigator or engineer). Depending on your assignment, you’ll have certain tasks you’ll need to perform during your journey.

Orange Team

Once you settle into the cabin the countdown begins. Soon you’ll experience the incredible crush of the rapidly increasing g-forces as you race through the atmosphere and into outer space. After a few moments of weightlessness it’s time for the slingshot maneuver around the moon (with another round of intense g-forces), that will propel you towards your final destination: Mars. Once you arrive, you’re in for a bit of a bumpy landing as things don’t go quite as planned. It’s up to you and your team to land your spacecraft safely.

The Orange Team version of Mission: SPACE is fiercely intense, but it’s the most true to life space experience you can have short of hopping a ride on the space shuttle!

Green Team

For those of you on the Green Team, your mission will take on an orbit high above the Earth. You’ll be able to see the beautiful lights of the many cities below, before gliding gently back to Earth for a safe touchdown. The capsules on the Green Team mission don’t spin like their Orange Team counterparts, they just rock gently back and forth…perfect for those of you with sensitive tummies!

Magical Moments

  • As you blast off for outer space you will feel the incredible g-forces press you into your seat just like the shuttle astronauts experience. The view is amazing, as the bright blue sky slowly dissolves into a breathtaking star field, signaling the beginning of your journey to Mars.
  • Although nothing quite beats that initial lift off, the slingshot around the Moon is also very intense (and it’s a pretty safe bet you’ve never seen the Moon quite like that before!).

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

  • Before the launch doors open, look for a pair of Hidden Mickeys on the horizontal bar above the door.
  • Look for the Horizons logo (the attraction that Mission: Space replaced) in the center of the rotating “gravity wheel” in the queue area.

Did You Know...?

  • Mission: SPACE was designed with the help of actual NASA astronauts, who say it is the most realistic simulation of space flight that they’ve ever experienced!
  • The illusion of speed is achieved by computerized, state-of-the-art centrifuges that spin and tilt to simulate space flight. There are four separate centrifuges, each with 10 capsules holding four riders each.
  • The simulator hardware was designed and built by the Environmental Tectonics Corporation of Pennsylvania.
  • It is estimated that the the cost of developing the attraction was $100 million.

Touring Tips

  • You must be 44” to ride. The Orange Team version of Mission: SPACE is not for the faint of heart. The intense g-forces are created by a giant centrifuge. Even though you (probably) won’t feel like you’re spinning, this attraction can still leave you feeling very woozy. If you’re prone to motion sickness use extreme caution. If you follow the instructions (and tips below) you might be fine, everyone reacts differently. The good news is that overall; most people don’t find it as bad as the hype makes it sound.
  • The Green Team version of Mission: Space shouldn’t present any major motion sickness problems, but it still features some simulator-type motions.
  • Mission: SPACE is one of the more popular attractions at Epcot. If lines are long, consider using FastPass+.
  • In the Orange Team version of the attraction, the most important tip for avoiding motion sickness is to stay focused on the screen with your head facing straight ahead. If you look around the spinning sensation will become much more apparent (and that could mean trouble!).
  • If you need them, motion sickness bags are provided for your, um, convenience!
  • Needless to say, don’t ride on a full stomach!
  • Mission: SPACE (along with the rest of Future World) usually closes at 7:00 while World Showcase typically remains open until 9:00.
  • If the ride is too much for you, you can either ride the gentler Green Team version or skip it entirely and experience the interactive attractions in the rest of the pavilion.
  • Look for the genuine Lunar Rover! in the queue
