At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll get a chance to relive your favorite movie moments and experience the glamour and magic of Hollywood! Behind the scenes tours, theatrical presentations and larger than life sets put you right in the heart of this cinematic wonderland. But don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s just a relaxing trip to the movies—Disney’s Hollywood Studios boasts some of the biggest and wildest thrill rides in all of Walt Disney World!

Hollywood Boulevard welcomes you with an inviting recreation of an idealistic Hollywood street, complete with art deco-style architecture, street performers, and a variety of shops and eateries. Pathways to the different areas of the park branch off at various points from Hollywood Boulevard. Starting to the left and moving clockwise, you’ll find Echo Lake, Grand Avenue, Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, Animation Courtyard, and finally, Sunset Boulevard.

Magical Moments

  • Most people aren’t aware of it, but you can walk along the waterway that connects the Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the Epcot resorts on Crescent Lake. Because it’s lightly traveled, the walk is often quiet and peaceful, particularly early in the morning or towards evening. Not only will you enjoy a relaxing stroll, but you’ll also get some magnificent views of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Swan and Dolphin resorts.
  • Walking through the Disney’s Hollywood Studios is like taking a walk back in time through the golden age of Hollywood. The art-deco architecture, neon lights and chrome fixtures hearken back to the days of movie making magic. Nighttime is especially exciting, as the Disney’s Hollywood Studios are lit-up with all the fan-fair of a world premiere.
  • While the lack of a proper “central hub” makes the Disney’s Hollywood Studios a bit awkward to navigate, it also makes it the most fun to explore. As you wander throughout the park you’ll find hidden alleyways and back streets leading to all sorts of out of the way places (and who knows, you may even come across a surprise or two!).
  • Not everything at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios is what it appears to be. Remember, the movies are filled with special effects and little tricks to make the unbelievable believable. Lampposts, wells, and other innocuous objects may actually conceal a clever surprise (for instance, if a sign warns you not to pull on a rope, try pulling it anyway!).

Did You Know...?

  • A number of feature films have been shot at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including: Passenger 57, Oscar, Quick Change, Ernest Saves Christmas, Splash Too, and Instinct.
  • The 1997 HBO series From the Earth to the Moon (starring Tom Hanks) was produced in two of the sound stages at Disney MGM Studios. An Emmy-winning mini-series for television, Separate But Equal, starring Burt Lancaster, was also produced at the Studios.
  • The main gate at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a reproduction of the facade of the Pan-Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles built in 1935. Considered to be one of America’s finest examples of Streamline Moderne architecture, the green and white facade featured four stylized towers and flagpoles meant to represent upswept aircraft fins above the entrance. While the original was destroyed by fire in 1989, this faithful recreation continues to pay tribute to the classic structure that symbolized classic Hollywood.Disney’s Hollywood Studios has played host to a virtual who’s-who of Hollywood and the entertainment industry throughout the years. Among the performers who’ve appeared at the studios are: Charlton Heston, Dustin Hoffman, Bette Midler, Warren Beatty, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Hanks, Liza Minnelli, Billy Joel, Christie Brinkley, Michael J. Fox, Samuel L. Jackson, Lou Gossett Jr., Drew Carey, Oprah Winfrey and Susan Lucci. In addition, Echo Lake and Star Tours have hosted special Star Wars weekends over the years, with many of the Star Wars cast and crew (including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and George Lucas) making guest appearances.

Touring Tips

  • The most important tip is to enjoy the magic. Part of that begins with the planning of your trip, but once you’re there, remember to let yourself be immersed in the fantasy. Disney’s Hollywood Studios has so much to offer besides the attractions. Take time to explore the different lands and to enjoy the little things. Don’t be in such a hurry to get from point A to point B, there’s so much more to see in between!
  • Of course, the attractions are the big draw, and you will want to experience as many of them as you can. To enable you to visit the attractions you want without getting caught up in rigid timetables and frantic scurrying, try the following tips:
    • Visit the headliner attractions during less busy times to avoid long waits. Good times to visit are first thing in the morning and during parades or shows.
    • Take advantage of FastPass+ whenever you can. A good rule of thumb is to use FastPass if the standby wait time is more than 20 minutes. While you’re waiting for your FastPass time to arrive, visit some of the less crowded attractions or do some exploring.
    • Visit during Extra Magic Hours so you can ride the major attractions as often as you like with little or no wait (it’s also a great time to experience the magic of the park).
    • If you are staying for several days, don’t try to cram too much into a single day. Spread yourself out so you can take your time and enjoy everything the Disney’s Hollywood Studios has to offer.
  • If your time allows, take a break in the middle of the day. Not only does this allow you to avoid the busiest time of day when crowds are the largest, it will give you a chance to experience more of the magic that Walt Disney World has to offer. Visit one of the deluxe resorts for lunch, or take a swim at your resort’s pool. By the time you get back to the park, you’ll be refreshed and ready for an evening of fun!
  • Getting to the Disney’s Hollywood Studios can be half the fun. Take a leisurely boat ride or SkyLiner from the Epcot resorts, or enjoy a peaceful walk along the waterway.
  • Another strategy to avoid the crowds is to do everything at the “wrong time”. For example, eat lunch at eleven and dinner at three. You’ll avoid the mealtime crush at the restaurants and also be able to enjoy the parks while everyone else is eating. You can also leave early to avoid the crowd of people trying to leave the park at day’s end. Alternatively, as the park is closing wander around for a while, soaking up the nighttime ambience of the Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and then leave after the crowds have thinned a bit.
