At Liberty Square you’ll wander past stores and building facades inspired by a variety of early American influences. As you enter from the hub you’ll be transported back in time to the pre-New York days of Dutch New Amsterdam. The Williamsburg Georgian architecture of Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe is complemented by the New England stylings along the waterfront near Fantasyland. You can wander through quaint shops, relive some great moments in American history, and even take a leisurely river boat ride.

But beware of ghoulish ghosts…!

Magical Moments

  • It’s Christmas 365 days a year at Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe. You can always visit to enjoy some Christmas spirit, even in the middle of summer.
  • Listen for the howling wolf from the Haunted Mansion as you wander through Liberty Square.

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

  • The padlock Hidden Mickey makes another appearance in Liberty Square (the other is in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction). Look on the stocks near the Liberty Square Riverboat to find it. Some people see it as a Hidden Mickey, others see it a wishful thinking. See what you think!

Did You Know...?

  • The Liberty Bell replica was cast from the same mold that was used for the original Liberty Bell (now in Philadelphia). It was installed in 1987 to commemorate the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution.
  • If you notice that some of the shutters are hanging crooked, that’s not a mistake! In Colonial times homeowners would use leather straps at the tops of the shutters instead of hinges to conserve metal. This often resulted in the shutters hanging at an angle. In another example of Disney’s obsession with detail, this subtlety is faithfully reproduced on the Liberty Square store fronts.
  • You may notice that the only flower colors in Liberty Square are, appropriately enough, red, white and blue!
  • Liberty Square is the only Magic Kingdom land that doesn’t appear in any other Disney park.

Touring Tips

  • Be sure to visit the Liberty Tree in the middle of Liberty Square. The tree is a real live 130 year old oak tree originally found in the southern area of the Disney World property. The 13 lanterns hung from its branches represent the 13 original colonies.
  • There’s also a replica of the Liberty Bell here, specially cast for Disney World. The court of flags surrounding it also pays tribute to the 13 colonies.
