Explore the beautiful gardens and buildings of Japan in this exquisitely detailed pavilion. In the gardens you’ll see cedar, bamboo, and cloud-pruned evergreens! One of the more exotic and inspirational of all the World Showcase pavilions, Japan features tranquil waterfalls, quiet pathways, and even a pond of koi goldfish.

For the ultimate shopping experience, visit the Mitsukoshi Department Store. You’ll find Japanese toys, anime comics, Hello Kitty items, and Pokémon collectibles, as well as kimonos, beautifully crafted jewelry (including fresh water pearls), ornate clocks and a fine assortment of Japanese culinary delights.

Be sure to also visit the White Heron Castle and the Bijutsu-kan Gallery in the rear of the pavilion to see a fun exhibit: Kawaii: Japan’s Cute Culture!

Magical Moments

  • Take time to explore the garden pathways winding throughout the pavilion. They are very tranquil and offer a quiet place to relax and escape. You’ll find exotic flowers and plants, a wooden bridge, and even a Koi fish pond.
  • The Japan pavilion is especially magical at night after the evening fireworks. As the crowds jostle to leave the park, hang back and take a stroll through the Japanese gardens. You’ll be alone, wandering through the exotic pathways while soothing music plays gently in the background (don’t worry about staying too late, many people are still having dinner so the Disney transportation will be running for quite a while).

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

  • Look at the corners of the pagoda. In each corner you’ll find a hanging golden ornament, and in each one is a pattern of holes forming a Hidden Mickey!

Did You Know...?

  • Towering above the Japan pavilion is the Goju-No-To pagoda. It was inspired by a shrine in Nara built in the year 700.

Touring Tips

  • The Mitsukoshi Department Store is one of the largest shops in World Showcase. It features a wonderful variety of clothing, kitchenware, food, toys, bonsai trees, fans, tapestries, jewelry and collectible items such as swords, clocks and vintage memorabilia. You can even pick out an oyster and have your own jewelry created with the fresh water pearls found inside!
  • Look for the KIDCOT pavilion, where children can color in a special World Showcase mask and have their passports or autograph books signed and stamped (passports can be obtained at most World Showcase gift shops, our Guide to the Magic for Kids book also contains special World Showcase sections with lots of extras).
  • Teppan Edo is a a one-of-a-kind dining experience where chefs work tableside preparing lobster, shrimp, scallops and beef. Watching the chefs cook with their flashing knives and quick hands is a show unto itself, but don’t let that distract you from the wonderful food!
  • Tokyo Dining offers a wide variety of Japanese cuisine in a beautiful setting, complete with tranquil views of World Showcase lagoon.
  • For a quick snack, visit the Yakitori House which features beef, chicken and Udon noodles. You can site outside in a peaceful, out of the way courtyard, complete with a waterfall and gently glowing lanterns.
  • You can immerse yourself in a truly creative dining experience in a sublime setting at Takumi-Tei — Japanese for “house of the artisan.” You’ll be seated in one of 5 rooms, each inspired by a natural element — water, wood, earth, stone or washi paper. Every area features beautiful, handcrafted works of art honoring the element that brought it to life.
