Splash Mountain will be undergoing an extensive renovation and will be rethemed as a Princess and the Frog adventure, starring Tiana herself!

Follow the adventures of Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear as you wind your way through Chickapin Hill.

After a short plunge (don’t worry, the drops will get much longer!), you’ll find yourself leisurely drifting by the homes of Br’er Rabbit and many of his friends. You might be lulled into thinking that this will be a relaxing boat ride, what with the critters of Chikapin Hill relaxing, fishing and singing all around you. But soon you’ll catch a glimpse of Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox, who seem to be up to no good. And if you pay attention, you’ll catch on that Br’er Rabbit might be heading for a bit of trouble.

As Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear get into more mischief, you’ll plunge down a couple of longer drops to find yourself in a dark, underground cavern-the Laughing Place! And it sure seems happy-turtles splashing, gophers singing…

But soon you’ll encounter two vultures ghoulishly looking down upon you as they promise to “show you a laughing place”. As you slowly climb the long, steep hill, you’ll catch one last glimpse of Br’er Rabbit as he pleads with Br’er Fox not to throw him (and you) in the briar patch.

Naturally, that’s exactly what Br’er Fox does, and soon you’ll find yourself hurtling down a final plunge of over 50 feet! If you can keep your eyes open, you’ll see that your plummeting right into the briar patch, and as a monstrous splash crashes over you, you’ll realize that you (and Br’er Rabbit) fooled Br’er Fox and are safe once again. As you dry off and relax, you’ll enjoy one final scene with Br’er Rabbit and all of his friends singing you a chorus of Zippadee-Doo-Dah. But the question is, do you think Br’er Rabbit has learned his lesson…?

Magical Moments

  • Right before the big plunge, take a quick peek out over the park to see a spectacular view of Space Mountain and Cinderella Castle (it’s especially magical at night).
  • The Laughing Place has its own peculiar whimsy, with playful turtles riding underground fountains, squirting jets of water and bubbling pools. The drop that leads to the Laughing Place is the only one at Splash Mountain to feature a double drop (it’s sort of like riding a water-bound roller coaster).

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

  • As you pass Br’er Frog fishing on the back of an alligator, look for a picnic basket with a red and white Mickey-shaped fishing bobber nearby!
  • When you enter the Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah scene after the final plunge, look at the sky background to the right of the steamboat to see a cloud shaped like Mickey lying on his back.

Did You Know...?

  • The final plunge is 52 1/2 feet high and is pitched at an angle of 45º. During the drop you hit a top speed of 40 mph (that’s faster than Space Mountain!).
  • The coloring of Splash Mountain (originally based on that of the film as designed by Claude Coats and Mary Blair), was shifted to a stronger magenta shade to better tie in with nearby Thunder Mountain.
  • The runoff from Splash Mountain leads to the Rivers of America, further integrating Splash Mountain into Frontierland.

Touring Tips

  • You must be 40″ tall to ride. The ride is fairly gentle and doesn’t throw you around very much; even the final drop is more fast than bouncy. Nevertheless, if you have back problems you may want to be cautious about riding. If you can handle moderation motion you should be fine.
  • Splash Mountain is a FastPass+ attraction. Since it’s one of the most popular attractions at the Magic Kingdom lines can be long (45 minutes on slower days and 90 minute or more on busier days). A popular FastPass strategy is to get a FastPass for either Splash Mountain or nearby Thunder Mountain first thing in the morning, then ride the other while you wait for your FastPass time to arrive. At that time you shouldn’t have to wait long for either attraction. If you’re lucky and the park isn’t too busy you may even get to loop them for a while until the crowds start to build!
  • Splash Mountain is open during Extra Magic Hours. You can ride as often as you’d like with little or no wait!
  • You may get wet! How wet depends on where you sit. If you’re in the very front it’s pretty certain that you’ll get wet (soaked if the splash hits you just right). The further back you sit the last chance there is of you getting very wet, though be aware that you’ll frequently get a big splash at the beginning of the ride as you pass by the final plunge and a spray of water flies up into the air, heading straight for your boat. Duck!
  • If it you’d like to sit in a certain row (either to get wet or to avoid getting wet), just ask. The cast members are usually happy to accommodate special requests.
  • In general, it doesn’t matter whether you sit on the right or left side of the boat. The only thing to be mindful of is that after the final plunge you’ll be passing a small waterfall that will be on your right. It’s usually not a problem, but if you happen to get stuck there and you’re sitting on that side you might get splashed (which can be particularly annoying if you just avoided getting doused!).
  • Wearing glasses? You might want to quickly take them off right before the final plunge. Tuck them in a nice dry place (under your shirt perhaps). Then, after you’ve splashed down you won’t have to wipe the water from your glasses (which is hard to do with a wet shirt!).
