Future World is home to variety of pavilions, taking you everywhere from the depths of the oceans to the distant planets of our Solar System. Future World is a ‘World’s Fair’ of innovation, science, and imagination. Each pavilion offers you a chance to explore and learn, but don’t be fooled! You’ll also get to experience some of the greatest attractions ever created at Walt Disney World, including some of the most thrilling attractions this side of the Tower of Terror!

Magical Moments

  • For a tranquil shortcut to World Showcase, follow the path along the Imagination pavilion. Along the way you’ll see (and smell) some beautiful gardens.
  • Take a break and enjoy a cool beverage on one of the many benches to be found along the pathways winding in and out of the gardens and waterways in Future World (you’ll find some particularly peaceful spots in the courtyard along the Imagination, Land, and Seas pavilions).
  • Tucked away on a walkway near Test Track is a wet and whimsical surprise. A multi-colored, spongy area on the ground shoots up fountains of water on unsuspecting guests (particularly welcome on a hot day!). This is a favorite play area for kids, and you’ll often see a large group of children happily playing in the fountains.
  • The landscaping in the right side of Future World is extraordinarily beautiful in keeping with the themes of nature and imagination that are on display throughout the pavilions. The meticulously manicured lawns surrounding the Land pavilion are especially enchanting.
  • In contrast, the landscaping and architecture on the left side of Future World features angular designs, sculpted plantings and metallic colors in keeping with the more technological theme of its pavilions.

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

  • On the way to The Seas with Nemo & Friends from the central plaza, look on the right side of the bridge into the water and see if you can spot a few of the stones forming a Hidden Mickey.
  • For an unexpected surprise, look at the pavement on either side of the central plaza after the sun goes down. You’ll see swirling patterns of fiber optic lights lighting up the pavers!
  • You may also see some artistic Cast Members “painting” Disney characters on the walkways by Spaceship Earth…using nothing more than a mop and a bucket of water!

Did You Know...?

  • The landscaping surrounding the Land pavilion is designed to create a visual representation of the land and earth. The trees at the top of the berm have white blooms to represent clouds, while the areas on either side of the pavilion are planted in rows to symbolize the natural riches of the land. The mosaics on the walls leading to the pavilion entrance are designed to mimic a cutaway view of the interior layers of the earth.
  • The leapfrog fountains outside the Imagination pavilion make use of a technology called Laminar Flow. Water pressure and the direction of the tubing in the fountains are carefully synchronized to create the illusion of a single splash of water leaping about the various fountains.
  • The World Fellowship Fountain, former centerpiece of Future World, was dedicated during the opening festivities of the park by Lillian Disney, Walt’s widow. Representatives from 23 nations brought water from their native homelands to feed the fountain, creating a symbolic gathering point for the world community.
  • As you wander around Future World, you may notice a purple bench with solar panels. This isn’t a mere decoration, the solar panels actually provide energy for the fans and lighting on the bench, creating a futuristic resting spot for the weary guest!
  • The sculpture that stood near the entrance of the (now closed) Wonders of Life pavilion was not just a piece of abstract art. It was a 76-foot, 25-ton double helix tower inspired by the structure of the DNA molecule.

Touring Tips

  • Near Test Track, you’ll find a unique place to cool off and grab a refreshing drink. Continuing the automotive theme, what would make more sense than a giant car wash?
  • Behind Test Track you’ll find a pathway winding around the former Odyssey restaurant. Today the building is occasionally used for festivals and special events. The walkway itself makes for a peaceful shortcut to World Showcase.
