The Tree of Life is the symbol of the Animal Kingdom–and just like Cinderella Castle and Spaceship Earth, it’s an awe-inspiring structure that perfectly captures the spirit of the park it represents. The Tree of Life is an amazing sight, rising 145 feet above the lush surroundings of Discovery Island. But as you approach the Tree of Life you’ll discover something extra magical. Carved into the trunk and branches are over 320 animals, painstakingly sculpted by a team of 20 artists who worked for over 18 months. The result is an awe-inspiring spectacle that symbolizes the majesty and variety of life on our home planet–the perfect way to say “Welcome to the Animal Kingdom”!

Look for the Tree of Life Garden for a nice, quiet, out of the way place to relax.

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

As you approach the Tree of Life from the park entrance, look for the buffalo about a third of the way up the trunk. You’ll see a Hidden Mickey formed out of green moss to its left.

Did You Know...?

The Tree of Life is comprised of 45 limbs that branch out into 756 secondary branches. They in turn lead to 7,891 smaller branches containing 102,583 foot-long leaves!
Originally there were 324 images on the tree. Jane Goodall, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, was invited by Disney to visit the Animal Kingdom. She was very impressed but noted that there were no chimpanzees on the tree! Imagineers went to work and not only added a chimp, they added Goodall’s favorite, David Graybeard. (You’ll find David near the entrance to It’s Tough To Be a Bug).

Touring Tips

Take the time to look at the tree carefully and see how many different animals you can find.
Come back and look at different times of the day, you may some new animals as the shadows shift.
You can see the Tree of Life from most areas of the park, particular on the pathways leading to the other lands. You’ll find lots of great photo opportunities even in the most unlikely of locations!
