Housed in a huge, Aztec-inspired pyramid, the Mexican pavilion is surrounded by lush, tropical foliage, giving you the feeling that you’re really there. But it’s the inside of the pyramid that’s truly amazing. Set in the perpetual twilight of the evening sky, the Plaza de Los Amigos sits ringed with a variety of shops and exhibits, while across a waterway there looms an ancient pyramid and smoking volcano.

Gran Fiesta Tour

Join Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito from Disney’s 1944 animated film “The Three Caballeros” on a relaxing and magical boat trip through Mexico. Along the way, Donald disappears enroute to the Three Caballeros performance in Mexico City. It’s up to his friends Jose and Panchito to go off in search of their missing pal. Will they find him in time for the festive celebration?

Your journey begins as you set off on your boat, gently gliding past a giant Aztec pyramid beneath a starry evening sky. You’ll soon enter an ancient temple where you’re greeted by Jose and Panchito…but no Donald! It’s off to find their missing friend, and while the two remaining amigos seem to miss him at every turn, you’ll get to see Donald as he tours Mexico, getting into quite a bit of mischief along the way. After several scenes, including a festival reminiscent of “it’s a small world” and a humorous encounter with a restaurant chef, you’ll find yourself at the festival where Donald reunites with his old friends.

Magical Moments

  • The interior of the pavilion recreates a Mexican marketplace set underneath an enchanting nighttime sky. It’s a wonderful place to do some shopping. You’ll find a variety of merchants selling pottery, piñatas, clothes and jewelry. You can also try on a sombrero or shake a colorful maraca!
  • Be sure to explore the pathways surrounding the pavilion, you’ll find a variety of lush orchids and other tropical foliage.
  • As you embark on the Gran Fiesta Tour, the first part of your journey takes you by the base of an ancient Aztec pyramid at night with a smoking volcano glowing in the distance (this is the pyramid that you see in the distance when you’re in the marketplace).
  • After you pass through the ancient temples, you’ll enter a festive room filled with dancing children and playful animals, very much like “it’s a small world.”
  • The final scene features a stunning fiber-optic fireworks display and a larger than life mural depicting modern Mexico.

Hidden Mickeys & Other Secrets

  • Look carefully at the volcano in the distance behind the pyramid. Every few minute you’ll notice a Hidden Mickey in the smoke coming out from the top. (The “smoke” is actually a film loop, hence the ability to sneak in a Hidden Mickey!)
  • Look in the lagoon on the left side of the boat and see if you can spot some Hidden Mickeys hiding in the bubbles.
  • In the room similar to “it’s a small world”, keep your eyes open and see if you can spot the Donald Duck pinata.
  • As you approach the final room, look for a boat on the left filled with instruments and decorative items. In the front, toward the right, see if you spot three bongo drums in a familiar Mickey shape.

Did You Know...?

  • The pyramid that houses the pavilion is inspired by the Aztec Temple of Quetzalcoatl (the God of Life).
  • The surrounding landscape is designed to make you feel as if you are in a Yucatán jungle! You’ll find a variety of exotic plants including Moreton bay figs, silver trumpet trees, Mexican fan palms, and orchid trees. Be sure to look for the 250 year old Yucca tree in the Cantina.
  • The final room in the Gran Fiesta Tour features a spectacular mural depicting Mexico City’s Reforma Boulevard.

Touring Tips

  • Gran Fiesta Tour is rarely crowded, you can visit anytime you’d like. It’s a great attraction to visit if you’re waiting for your FastPass time to arrive for the nearby Maelstrom.
  • Gran Fiesta Tour is similar in style to “it’s a small world”, with whimsical Animatronic figures of children and animals celebrating the Mexican culture.
  • Look for the KIDCOT pavilion, where children can color in a special World Showcase mask and have their passports or autograph books signed and stamped (passports can be obtained at most World Showcase gift shops, our Guide to the Magic for Kids book also contains special World Showcase sections with lots of extras).
  • The San Angel Inn features authentic Mexican cuisine served in a unique, magical atmosphere. Located behind the Plaza de Los Amigos inside the pavilion, you feel like you’re dining under the cool sky of a Mexican evening, with the an awe-inspiring ancient pyramid majestically towering across the waterway.
  • Every once in a while you can catch the Mariachi Cobre, a strolling Mariachi Band that performs in front of the pavilion.
