Shipwrecked and with little hope of rescue, the Robinson family created an imaginative home in the branches of this large tree. As you follow the winding path that take you all the way up to the treetop and down again, you’ll see a bedroom, a study, a look-out post and a remarkable kitchen.

If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, this is the place to be!

Did You Know...?

  • Although it certainly looks real, the tree is actually made of steel, concrete and stucco with a root system that reaches 42 feet underground.
  • Here are some awe-inspiring numbers for you: there are more than 300,000 leaves and 500,000 flowers and buds on the 1400 branches of this 60 foot tall tree, which stretches to 90 feet in diameter (got all that?).
  • There are a total of 116 steps to traverse (that’s a lot of steps!).
  • The tree goes by the nomiker Disneyodendron Eximus (which stands for Out-of-the-Ordinary Disney Tree). The tree in Disneyland is known as Disneyodendron Semperflorens Grandis (which stand for Large, Ever Blooming Disney Tree).
  • The Swiss flag seen above the Treehouse was once the only foreign flag that permanently flew over a Disney attraction. That changed a few years ago, when a Union Jack flag was raised on the dock of the Jungle Cruise (you can spot it as you disembark your boat, just over the loading area).
  • The natural inspiration for the Swiss Family Robinson tree is the Banyan, which is actually a species of tropical fig. These unusual trees usually start life as a seedling on another tree, courtesy of a fig-eating bird. The roots of the Banyan slowly descend over the trunk of the host tree, creating a lattice around the host tree’s trunk. These trees can grow quite large, sometimes covering an area of two-thirds of an acre (Thankfully, the Swiss Family Treehouse is in no danger of spreading throughout the rest of Adventureland!).

Touring Tips

  • This attraction is a walking tour that winds up and down lots of stairs. If you have problems negotiating steps or walking long distances you’ll want to keep that in mind. This is one of the few attractions at the Magic Kingdom that is not wheelchair accessible
  • You can usually walk right in to the Treehouse and tour at your leisure
  • The Treehouse is particularly magical at night! The tree is subtly (and dramatically) lit, and you’ll get some great views of the Magic Kingdom from the top.
  • There are plenty of great picture spots here. You might encounter a bit of a logjam at certain places as people take photos (or admire the view).
