Origins: A significant component of the production facilities constructed at the Disney's Hollywood Studios was a number of working sound stages. These were located behind Hollywood Boulevard on Mickey Avenue, and several films and TV shows were produced here. The sound stages also served as hosts for a number of temporary attractions that highlighted the latest Disney productions.

In the tradition of the old Hollywood studios, a water tower was constructed behind Mickey Avenue, complete with a pair of 5000 pound Mickey ears! The "Earffel Tower" (as it came to be known), served as the park's first iconic landmark, though unlike the water towers of old this one was strictly decorative.
Updates: As the Disney's Hollywood Studios became more and more popular, areas that were previously closed to the public were now opened to improve traffic flow and to accommodate new attractions. Chief among these locations was Mickey Avenue, and as the public was provided more access to these backlot areas, Mickey Avenue played host to more permanent attractions, such as the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Play It! show.
